More and more companies are taking advantage of digital mobile billboard advertising – and for good reason.

When it comes to outdoor advertising, one of your key objectives is to reach as many people as possible with your message. Digital out of home (DOOH) advertising in all its guises – from the urban panels in city and town centers, digital street furniture advertising, digital transit advertising and digital place-based advertising – is positively flourishing right now.

Worth $6.8 billion in 2021, the US DOOH advertising market is expected to expand at a CAGR of 13.8 between 2022 and 2028.

However, if there’s one DOOH option that effortlessly blends the appeal of large-scale billboard design with a level of mobility that simply isn’t afforded to other media, it’s mobile billboard advertising.

What Is Digital Mobile Billboard Advertising?

Digital mobile billboards are, in effect, ads on wheels.

Large, digital billboards are attached to moving vehicles – often trucks – which then drive the advertisements around, attracting the attention of pedestrians, motorists and commuters.

Such mobile billboard truck advertising is usually found in metropolitan areas, such as large and mid-size cities. As such, this type of advertising is a great way to reach a large audience in high traffic areas.

Digital mobile billboards are known to engage consumers and drive action.

According to research by the Out of home Advertising Association of America (OAAA), nearly a third of all consumers notice digital mobile billboard advertising each month – and of these, 57% notice them “all” or “most” of the time.

What’s more, two-thirds of viewers (67%) engage in actions after seeing digital mobile billboard advertising, such as searching for the advertiser online, visiting its store or restaurant, or posting to social media.

In addition, 61% engage in mobile device actions after seeing a digital mobile billboard, such as searching for the advertiser’s website, scanning a QR code, using a hashtag, downloading an app, accessing a discount, or making a purchase.

In another branch of the study, the OAAA wanted to know how effective digital mobile billboard ads that gave directions to a business, were.

52% of people noticed such ads, of whom 69% immediately visited the advertised business, where 98% made a purchase.

The Key Benefits of Mobile Billboard Advertising

It’s clear that mobile billboard advertising delivers great results for SMBs. From increasing conversion capabilities to driving in-store action, mobile billboards are an excellent way to accelerate your DOOH advertising efforts.

So, let’s explore five key benefits of mobile billboard truck advertising for businesses.

Mobile Billboards Reach Large Audiences

One of the great benefits of digital advertising on mobile billboard trucks is that they can reach huge numbers of your potential customers. Instead of being confined to a single location, the entire city becomes the canvass for your digital ad.

Mobile billboard trucks go everywhere, all day long, increasing your chances of your ad being seen by your target market. Even at times when they may be stuck in slow-moving traffic, mobile billboard trucks are showing your message to pedestrians and motorists – and when they’re on the move, they’re flaunting your ad to new people every minute.

Mobile Billboard Truck Advertising Is Highly Targeted

When it comes to targeted outdoor advertising, mobile billboard advertising offers many advantages.

When a digital billboard is cruising all over town, you can choose specific routes to display your ads to boost your chances of your message being seen by your target market.

The DOOH Checklist for SMBs: What You Need to Create a Successful Campaign

This is because, like other forms of DOOH advertising, mobile advertising is bought via powerful programmatic platforms, such as The Neuron. These systems enable you to choose which routes you want your advertisement to display along – to target potential clients near your store or outlet, or where special events may be taking place.

In the same way, you can use programmatic DOOH (pDOOH) platforms to target specific audiences in specific areas at specific times of day or night. This is because pDOOH platforms utilize a wealth of anonymized mobile location data (plus data from other sources) to build a picture of where various demographics spend their time. Digital mobile billboard advertisers can then use this data to target these audiences along billboard truck routes.

You Know Where Your Ad Goes

Today, GPS technology lets you know precisely where your mobile billboard campaign travels throughout the day. This not only makes it possible to plan where your ad goes and how it gets there, but track where your ad has been and who was exposed to it.

This information gives you valuable insight into how your advertising campaign is performing in various areas so you can make adjustments to the campaign and optimize your marketing strategy for maximum ROI.

Mobile Billboard Advertising Is Unavoidable

Today, most types of advertising are easily avoidable by consumers. Whether they’re muting the TV during commercial breaks, switching between radio stations, turning the page in newspapers and magazines, or using ad blockers to fend off the onslaught of digital ads that appear every time they’re online – consumers like to dodge ads every way they can.

Bright, eye catching adverts on digital billboard trucks, however, are practically unavoidable. Consumers are simply unable to block or turn away from the ad like they can online, in a newspaper, or on TV.

As such, by advertising on mobile billboards, you can be sure your target market sees your message – and if you use a catchy phrase and a great design, you can grab lots of attention.
